A review in Barbara Mertins’ Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia: Reading for Young People says that “Stereotyped images have been replaced by a realistic portrayal of West Virginia” (American Library Association, 1985), but the book has all the flavor of a public relations effort as opposed to serious history.
